Channel estimation errors and pilot power allocation for wireless systems with antenna arrays

چکیده
This paper discusses wireless systems using antenna arrays at both the transmitter and receiver. Spacetime coding is used to exploit the parallelism of the radio channels formed. Theoretical results on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) degradation due to imperfect channel estimation are used to determine the optimum ratio of pilot to data symbols to be used in a Rayleigh fading environment. Exact results initially are obtained for the single transmit antenna case. These results are then extended to multiple transmit antennas, using analysis of an upper bound on error probability. The results can be used for any SNR, for any channel Doppler frequency and for any transmitter and receiver array size.

متن کاملPower Allocation between Pilot and Data Symbols for MIMO Systems with MMSE Detection under MMSE Channel Estimation
For multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication system with minimum mean square error (MMSE) detection, a new scheme of power allocation between pilot and data symbols is investigated under MMSE channel estimation in this paper. First, we propose a novel soft-output MMSE MIMO detector by taking into consideration the channel estimation error. Then, through the application of ra...
متن کاملMIMO Channel Estimation with Dimension Reduction
The number of channel estimates that have to be estimated in Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system is in general much larger, than in a single antenna communication scheme. This leads to lower signal to noise ratios (SNR) of the channel estimates if a constant pilot power independent from the number of transmit antennas is assumed. The use of long-term spatial channel characteristics can...
متن کاملPilot Power Allocation for OFDM in DAS
In distributed antenna system (DAS), since the distances from the remote antenna units (RAUs) to the mobile are different, the transmitted power of pilot symbol in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) needs to be optimized to provide a reliable channel estimation for the purpose of coherent detection. In this paper, we present a novel pilot power allocation strategy for OFDM in DAS...
